Below is an email message sent on Monday, July 24 2006 regarding Full Spectrum's new Spam Filtering services.
Dear Full Spectrum Subscriber,
We are sending this message to all Full Spectrum customers to advise them of
a few upcoming changes and improvements to our email spam filtering. These
changes will be implemented this week and will be available as early as
Wednesday, July 26th, 2006.
As most of you are aware email spam has become an issue of epidemic
proportions over the last few years. 'Spammers', and those in the business
of sending and distributing spam messages, are forever inventing new ways of
sending out their unwanted messages. Internet Service Providers (ISP's) like
Full Spectrum are having to invest in new technology, both hardware and
software, in order to minimize the amount of unwanted email messages that
make their way to customer inboxes.
For the past several years we have employed a device called the Barracuda
Spam Firewall. For a variety of reasons we have decided to discontinue our
use of the Barracuda and switch to a new device. The new solution is part of
an email server software package that we have already implemented. In
addition to improvements in email management that we see on the server side,
following are some of the advantages that you will see as a Full Spectrum
user:
1. More intelligent recognition of spam and more aggressive blocking of
adult-content related emails
2. Easier access to your spam quarantine. With our new spam filtering
service, you can view your spam quarantine through our WebMail interface and
more easily unblock messages that may have been mistakenly marked as spam.
3. Any email addresses that you (or a friend) may have previously
requested that we "unblock" will continue to be 'Whitelisted' in our new
system.
4. Anyone you send an email to will automatically be 'Whitelisted' in our
new system to ensure that your contacts can email you without possibly being
mistaken as spam.
5. If someone sends you an email and our filter blocks it as spam, the
sender will automatically be given the opportunity to 'unblock' themselves
and permanently 'Whitelist' their address to ensure they're not blocked in
the future.
Starting on July 26, 2006 the Barracuda Spam Firewall will be turned off and
the new spam filter will be activated. As note above however, any addresses
that you had 'whitelisted' in the Barracuda will also be whitelisted in the
new spam filter. We will send another email on July 26th with more details
and instructions on using the new filters.
Please email our support mailbox at Internet@FullSpectrumIA.com if you have
any questions related to the new spam filtering once it becomes available.
Thank you -The Full Spectrum Team
